How we classify FODMAP foods

A transparent explanation of IsItFODMAP verdicts, source boundaries, portion caveats, medical-safety wording, and correction process.

Verdicts are general, not personal

Each food is labeled Low, Moderate, or High using publicly available FODMAP guidance and clinical literature. Individual tolerance still varies, especially during reintroduction and when several portion-sensitive foods are eaten together.

LowUsually easier for many people during a structured low-FODMAP phase, with portion notes still respected.
ModeratePortion-sensitive. One serving may fit, but larger portions or several moderate foods can change tolerance.
HighOften limited during the short elimination phase, then tested carefully during reintroduction with professional guidance.

Source boundary

We do not use proprietary app data and are not affiliated with Monash University. We use public clinical guidance, established health sources, and conservative wording so the site stays educational instead of pretending to be a diagnosis tool.

How corrections work

Food testing and serving guidance can change. If a reader, clinician, or dietitian spots a mismatch, send the food, source, and suggested correction to hi@isitfodmap.com.

Use the method with the food index.

Start at the A-Z food index, then click into individual pages for verdict, portion, swap, category hub, and related guides.
